Pedestrians are the most vulnerable of road users, but they will ultimately be safer when there are fewer cars, and that relies on a multi-pronged strategy: Better transit, congestion pricing, street redesign, and regulation. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/10/08/w...

My photo doesn’t do it justice but Court Street in Brooklyn is going to be nice when it’s done.

I went out to Flatbush to see the new bus lanes and uhmmm it’s a bit of a mess for now. Very little signage and markings with sudden lane shifts.

Illegal parking is a major problem. One vehicle reduces road capacity by 50%. I asked an NYPD traffic agent and he’s like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it’s my first day lol

Meanwhile, note from a Carroll Gardens friend:

Illegal parking everywhere is the main reason NYC's bike lanes/network always feels so half-assed #bikenyc

Our office released a new study highlighting rampant illegal parking across Downtown Brooklyn. Vehicles block sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes & loading zones - making it more dangerous for New Yorkers to get around the neighborhood.

Took the High Bridge home after the Tour de Bronx. I can't see this without shaking my fist and cursing Robert Moses #bikenyc
A silver and white bicycle leaned up against a fence. Three or four highways are visible in the background, overlapping and intertwined.

A scary incident occurred at the Jay St Metrotech Station when a track fire caused the station to fill with smoke.

The @fdny.bsky.social response was delayed due to illegally parked vehicles on Jay St. They couldn't even access the curb due to @nypdnews.bsky.social vehicles parked at a bus stop.

This is such an obvious, well-known, long-running issue and no one with the power to do anything about it cares nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/09/05/z...

Electric bicycles, and shared electric bicycles in particular, are a revolutionary transportation technology. Forward-looking cities should be building out the infrastructure necessary to make cycling safe and convenient for everyone who wants to do it.

True New Yorker quizzes are fun and all but there is only one question in the actual True New Yorker test: Do You Take The Subway?

Rode the new and still in-progress Court Street protected bike lane and it’s already a thing of beauty. Makes such a difference on what used to be a very dangerous street for cycling.

On an average summer weekday, there are 475 illegally parked cars along key corridors in Downtown Brooklyn — 57 percent of which had legit or fake parking placards that let the holder park anywhere with impunity.

Silicon Valley companies like Uber are making their own rules for the streets of our city. Then they avoid accountability for this blatant illegality by treating their workers as independent contractors, threatening to fire them if they disobey.

The apps must be reined in.

An Uber driver hit someone on a scooter after making an illegal u-turn, but it was Uber's in-app GPS that told him to do it. The ongoing lawsuit shows how Uber's drivers' pervasive fear of customer complaints results in reckless driving and following the app over individual judgement.

An Uber driver made an illegal u-turn and hit someone, but the in-app navigation told him to do it and the company won't give up the code.

The Davis Center bike racks in Central Park are finally opened, but they are still in the middle of the park's biggest downhill, and inaccessible to those who would want to bike in from Harlem.
