The DC Fire Chief referred to it as an accident, as well as a lot of journalists today, and it's been breaking my brain. The fact that folks, especially high ranking folks who should be more cognizant, are comfortable using "accident" is alarming.

My family insisted on writing checks to my husband and I like that, but because that's not my name, our credit union would not accept them. I'm totally fine with being called by my kids' last name in the context of being their mom, bc caregivers have a lot on their plate, but my family knew better.
