Totally an ego bear trap. That's the unnecessary bit!

Same thing happened to me as a writer, actually. Didn't think I was writing/wanted to write horror.

I have *so many* that I'm going to limit this to things people usually assume I've seen: The Big Lebowski, The Wire, Mrs. Doubtfire, Office Space, any of the I Know What You Did Last Summers, Devil Wears Prada, Lost, Arrested Development, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

Hahahaha that's absolutely amazing.

This is unironically how I see the world

tired: there are many different kinds of horror
wired: *everything* is horror

One of the things that has always been true, but doesn’t get addressed until you start to get pretty nerdy in talking about horror, is that it’s actually many different audiences, pushed together under the umbrella of horror. That variation, is good for the genre and audiences.

The last one seems risky...

THE CHILDREN UNDER THE HOUSE: A mute little girl's therapy sessions are narrated entirely through the kid's drawings and the therapist's notes. Stomach-turning creepy + genuinely disturbing no-budget analog horror, until a last-minute shark jump. Grade = A- for the first 75%, C- for the end. (Tubi)

I read She Said Destroy earlier this year and loved every singles story.
Issues With Authority arrived in the mail two days ago. First two stories are brilliant. The pageant story had me squirming and giggling. On to Red Skies in the Morning.
AND, Laird Barron blurb on your second book!!!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying it 🤗

It’s just so weird to me how people just see art as a product and not a tool of human connection and communication. Like that’s the whole fucking point.

Just showed this to Roommate whose only response was "No."

Oh me too. I'm trying to just read everything at face value.

Oh that's deep deep trauma
nadiabulkin.bsky.social
Lol (I am in fact smiling irl). We've clearly become way too passive aggressive as an online culture.

How do you feel about ☠️?
nadiabulkin.bsky.social
Oh I think everyone assumes the worst about 👍🏻 My roommate insists it's a simple straightforward acknowledgement, like "copy that," but yeah.

Oh man. Definitely used this one. It's very Midwest millennial I think?
