The first trip I took with CDC in 2001, before PEPFAR’s support brought the widespread availability of antiretrovirals, was to help two experts develop HIV counseling training for local counselors in sub-Saharan Africa. At the time, most counselors were volunteers, many who had HIV or knew…(1/5)

So the proposal for a State Department overhaul includes eliminating Africa operations. Combined, African countries represent $32B in U.S. exports and $39B in imports. That’s oil, platinum, gold, cocoa, and other agricultural products. (1/5) www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/u...

The destruction of classified #USAID documents is just another in a series of assaults on the USAID workforce and the work of the agency. #FromTheAmericanPeople www.nytimes.com/2025/03/11/u...
U.S.A.I.D. Official Orders Employees to Shred or Burn Classified and Personnel Records
A union representing career diplomats demanded that the aid agency follow the law stated in the Federal Records Act. Some documents could be relevant in court cases.

We need to do this for USAID, too.
The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Paying for completed work is a bare minimum. This work was already planned for in accordance with Congressional earmarks and approved and monitored by staff at #USAID. The Prompt Payment Act should also apply and require interest after 30 days. #FromTheAmericanPeople www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...

I guess DOGE’s plan to traumatize laid off federal employees and contractors includes damaging their investments and 401k’s, too.

Since Jan 21, my measly brokerage account has gone down 10%. Granted it’s tech heavy. (And, yes, I recognize my privilege in even having investments.)

As a former health communicator, I appreciate this well written piece. News with a simple explanation of the science and action steps.

My co-workers at CDC and USAID were some of the most driven people I've ever met. They're often highly educated, Type A people who thought nothing of spending extra hours evenings or weekends when the work required it. That Elon and Co. feel fed workers deserve to be traumatized is outrageous.

One of the biggest tragedies of USAID's demise is the loss of international development evidence, data, and stories. The USAID website, the Development Experience Clearinghouse, and practitioner sites like AgriLinks. All gone. It's a topic I'll be asking my elected representatives to restore.
