in the last week, he's tried to backflip out of the shopping cart, told my husband "I don't love you today. maybe if you were mommy I would" and just today, ate two figs, threw some on the floor, then told strangers "mommy and daddy eat figs and give me NO FIGS"

he seems to get being sad but he doesn't always think it's sad when others are sad? though he pats his daycare buddies sometimes when they cry and vice versa (don't get me started on daycare tears. it's been the bane of my life this first month of daycare)

a harsh master

I yearn for the day he understands that he's not allowed to say/do certain things. we are trying so hard to get him to stop, I'm resorting to non-PC methods like "it makes mommy really sad and she might cry" (still to no avail)

he also discovered at my parents' house that he loves cherry tomatoes, which he loves to tell us when he's awake, and ik it's real because the other night in his sleep he started moaning "cherry tomatoes. cherrrry tomatoeeees"

my mil's is a picky snacker but loved the tj salmon treats! fwiw

I completely understand wanting zero (it's definitely an easier life) or one (kinda chic? enough kid to understand parenting) or two (I assume every time they hug each other makes it feel worthwhile). but three feels genuinely deranged
