most of you (probably) know that I am a librarian, specifically a public librarian who specializes in collection management

so in 2025 I’m going to post book stuff occasionally, when I read something that I want to share

currently thinking I will pin this thread and add to it throughout the year

I have beef with all of the Big 5 but S&S is enemy number one right now

oh nice, Simon & Schuster has increased the price for a whole bunch of their BACKLIST e-audiobooks to $99.99 for two years

guessing that two years from now they’ll jack the price up to $129.99
nanette.bsky.social
sorry, “phoemixx classic books,” you will not be collecting $15.99 for the earlier of 52 checkouts or 24 months (one user) from me

you can’t judge a (self-published version of a public domain) book by its cover
The cover of an ebook version of the city of god volume 1 by Bishop of Hippo St. Augustine, but the cover features theater masks in black and white against a very cybermodern purple and aqua neon background.

yeah that’s the only benefit, getting to unleash my rage on it

please don’t make me listen to this Blake Babies album again

my latest fantastic idea
Oh the other day I had a great idea
like what if it was the grocery store, the normal grocery store, but for music they only played spiritualized?

I’m not letting you judge me

ZIPS UPDATE. they won the national championship and Tim’s player won the heisman three years in a row (so far)

he still needs to play his senior year so he could ostensibly win two national championships and four heismans

I have procured the second most festive of autumnal items*: the stackable pumpkins

*most festive is warty phallic gourds, I’ll get some of those next weekend maybe
A stack of three pumpkins: white on the bottom, dark green in the middle, orange on top.

I went all encyclopedia brown and walked past him when I was throwing away my trash so I could get a better look and I think Tim is right, in his late 30s but looks older because he drinks a lot of craft beer when he stays up late playing video games

I am at Costco and there’s a man at the table next to ours who has a couple of young kids (like toddler/preschool) but he looks like he’s my age and he’s wearing a jimmy eat world t-shirt and these are things I associate with three very different possible ages, this is baffling

we are out to dinner at the food hall and the golf shirt wearing grandpa at the table next to ours just said “this place is bussin’” and I want to crawl in a hole due to secondhand embarrassment

new kallax has been built, Elsie has already claimed it as her own. Flora is more interested in the empty box.
A white medium haired cat with dilute calico accents on her head and tail reclining majestically on a black kallax. She looks fancy but she’s actually a giant doofus.

bona drag was the peak of my obsessive Morrissey solo fandom, everything after that was disappointing and by vauxhall I had lost interest

this is one of my all-time favorite books! It’s deeply weird, very funny, and has one of the all-time great endings

(trust me, I’m a librarian!)

I’m about 70% of the way through it but @drewmagary.bsky.social’s The Hike is currently on sale wherever ebooks are sold and it is very good and uncomfortable! There’s also a crab!
The cover of The Hike by Drew Magary. It features those words in large letters and in the middle is a blue crab. I don’t know if the species of crab is specifically a blue crab, only that the color of the crab is blue.

the mystery of why did my polyvinyl order ship from five blocks away from my workplace to CHICAGO rather than just coming directly to me? I live in the same town

it’s now arriving on “invalid date” or maybe October 8

I forwarded the info to Tim with the comment “dj jettrokk is the dj at nutfest, maybe I should go” and obviously I am kidding, I was thrilled when the kid was able to attend independently so I could stay home
