As I approach the final part of my “Rich People, Stupid People” series, I have to admit that my own methods of good propaganda distribution are rather limited: I have a blog, and I have my mouth.  That’s pretty much the limit of my platforms, which also highlights the limitations of my audience (no offense intended): If and when anyone reads my blog posts, in all likelihood it's someone who either knows me, agrees with me, or both. 

It really should be a bigger story.

C. JOY Now that we’ve gotten the redirected anger and difficult-to-convey truth out of the way, we get to the most positive and hopeful portion of our good propaganda message. What the “joy” aspect involves is really just thinking about and sharing what truly makes you happy in your life.  I suspect, in some ways, most of us are lacking joy in our lives – especially in these recent months – and misdirected anger has taken its place. 

B: TRUTH Getting people to see the truth might be the hardest aspect of the good propaganda message to convey because we basically have to tackle the stupid with the facts, and stupid doesn’t always believe facts that repudiate the lie they heard first and that gibe with their existing world view.  After all, a lie can take hold in just a few words but it can take multiple paragraphs to even attempt to refute.  

Act 2: So, What Do We Want to Say? I’m an unabashed atheist,[1] but I was confirmed in the Methodist Church and took numerous college classes on mythology and world religions, so I know a little about the Bible and Jesus Christ, including some of the most memorable bits of guidance attributed to him in the New Testament. In large part, Jesus of Nazareth’s words were both sensible and kind, but he also had an angry streak when it came to hypocrites and the wealthy. 

Act 1:  What We Are Up Against Over the course of nearly 250 years, Americans have fought and died to free ourselves of a monarch, to strive for an end to slavery, to promote suffrage and human equality, and to defend the sovereignty of all nations to make decisions for themselves (preferably following the “ideal” guidelines laid out by the American founding fathers, perhaps even improving upon them).

As I set out in Part I of this rant, the results of the 2024 presidential election can be attributed in alarmingly large part to the ignorance of the American electorate. For whatever reason, voters did not seek to inform themselves of what was truly happening in our government, and what electing trump might mean for the country. Being fed a load of lies on an hourly basis could have something to do with it, but the deeper problem is that Americans do not understand their own government, nor do they trust it to be a beneficial or helpful system where their own lives are concerned, when the reality is the exact opposite.
