But from what I hear about this season, I’m…less confident in the prospect of (what I would describe as) a more nuanced/radical ending, I guess. Sorry for the wall of text! I got excited lol

—Hazbin to embrace the idea that there IS an objective hard line between good vs. bad/heaven vs. hell. I’m still rooting for a twist where it turns out getting into heaven comes down to a celestial coin flip, or maybe getting the shit shot out of you with obscene amounts of angelic power lmao.

…start to look less like universal laws and more like arbitrary barriers designed to keep the less fortunate from disrupting the peace/“polluting” the sanctity of a select ruling class. “Sin” and “redemption” are such fraught and subjective concepts; it would feel strange to me for a show like—

Because I think when you set your story in heaven and hell you inevitably hit that wall you talked about. The “golden rules” legitimizing a divine ruling class while keeping sinners trapped in a cycle of addiction and poverty and violence “unless they redeem themselves”…

Oh man, same hat. I’ve had my fingers crossed so hard that the show will take a direction where Charlie eventually figures out the main goal shouldn’t be to bring sinners up to heaven but to coalition-build and create support systems on the ground to make HELL better.

Haha, thank you so much Lucky!! And hmmm, I've always gotta recommend Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" (I'm pretty sure there's commentary on panel design) but other than that...I'm stumped. @justbutton.bsky.social is teaching a comics class this spring tho, and I bet he has a recommendation!

The idea that he chose to nerf himself was what made Lucifer believable to me*. Now that I know Lucifer’s powers are stymied by forces beyond his own will, I find it much harder to…make sense of him, I guess? 🤔The themes feel much muddier to me.

YOU PUT IT INTO WORDS!! And so concisely too! THIS is what’s had me so sad. The fact that Lucifer CHOSE not to interfere (“interfering” implying some amount of violence, given…hell) of his OWN free will made his punishment (and character) SO deliciously layered
