At night, I have trouble sleeping.
My phone buzzes like an angry bee.
The air is cold like winter inside me.
I soften my hands with rosewater.
I let them air dry slowly.
The neighbor's stilettos echo across the ceiling like horse hooves on wet pavement.
The sheets on our bed are Egyptian cotton.
We forgot to wash them this week.
You stream a show next to me on your iPad.
I can't hear it, but the light tells me where the movement 1S.
You sigh as you fall asleep.
Your soft breath on my back is a phantom.
We haven't really touched in years.

Sze is a poet with a lot of acclaim — he's won the National Book Award, was a Guggenheim fellow and was a finalist for the Pulitzer. He aims to promote interest in translated poetry in his new role.
