A nice article about friend and colleague Raewyn Connell in the SMH, including foreshadowing her new trans memoir. Pleased to see she's delivering this year's Ted Wheelwright lecture in political economy at Sydney University - one of the few universities to maintain political economy and Marxism.
Raewyn’s groundbreaking work changed how we think about men. Its origins were deeply personal
Raewyn Connell has a global reputation and is speaking at an event marking one of the PM’s intellectual influences.

tfw your joint intellectual project makes it out of the group chat. Thanks @kurtiveson.bsky.social for your astonishing write up of our work! We're merely picking up on the threads of spatial and environmental political economy laid down by yourself and many others!

The most special part of this story is that
@kurtiveson.bsky.social
has read our work as a collective project - which is precisely what it is. I guess this is what it looks like when a joint intellectual project makes it out of the group chat, and into the world.

🚨⛈️ BRISBANE AND SEQ: You do not have to do any activities or appointments for "mutual" obligations over the next week.

If you are due to report your job search before 12 March, you do not have to submit any job applications or meet your points target.

Stay safe ❤️
To provide people time to prepare for the potential impacts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations will pre-emptively pause mutual obligation requirements for participants in Workforce Australia and Disability Employment Services, from Tuesday 4 March until Tuesday 11 March 2025 (inclusive) in the following employment regions:
• Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast
• Somerset
• Wivenhoe
• Brisbane South-east
• Gold Coast
• Darling Downs
• North coast.
The department continues to monitor conditions on the ground. Dependant on where or if Tropical Cyclone Alfred makes landfall, the department is ready to either extend the duration of the pause and/or include additional impacted areas if required.

Incredible work by one of the best, most generous scholars I know. A more nuanced and politically useful analysis of geoengineering than you'll find anywhere else. Highly recommended!!

As the Trusk regime is wrecking the state apparatus that brought us the IRA, it's more urgent than ever to understand the politics of green macrofinancial regimes.

Here's a 🧵 on the result of @danielagabor.bsky.social and I wrecking our brains for four years.

this reconceptualisation builds on the work of many critical scholars working on geoengineering and climate repair including @hollyjeanbuck.bsky.social @duncanmclaren.bsky.social @wimcarton.bsky.social Andreas Malm and Chantel Carr

My thesis considers geoengineering in the context of the emerging politics of climate repair in the 21st C. Rather than an intervention in an external nature, I argue that geoengineering is a way of producing the climate, bringing the social relations of production to the fore

Hello world - one of the many who are new here!

Thought I'd start by sharing something I've been working on the past few months: The Break Down, @the-breakdown.bsky.social, a new(ish) space for all things capitalism + climate and ecological crisis
