I bet it smells great in there with all those brugmansia blooms.

Oh ok. He really does have a distinctive face. Hopefully there will be a little watermelon that takes after him.

Just another bird enthusiast. 😂

Is it fairly young? Interesting face and ear markings.

I was just thinking this very thing after reading your original post. Such an encouraging personal sign from your dad.❤️

One of my school friends who now lives in Minnesota and has a summer place on the lake has them all over their forested property. She said they sound like monkeys so now the two of us refer to them as flying monkeys
😂

I wish that I could have been able to get a shot of the two that were on a Douglas fir on Sunday, unfortunately I had taken my phone out of my pocket because I was crawling around weeding.
I usually hear them before I see them when I'm outside. They definitely have an unmistakable call.

I had to back up as I was going into my kitchen so I wouldn't scare this Pileated woodpecker off the suet feeder this morning. They were absent for a good portion of the summer and just showed up again two weeks ago in the Douglas firs in my back garden. They are magnificent birds!
#birds 🪶
A female Pileated woodpecker perched on a suet feeder. This suet feeder has a long tail prop at the bottom which makes it easier for large woodpeckers to hold on to the feeder. Pileated woodpeckers are huge. This shows how big it is compared to two suet blocks.

I choose video over stills in the hopes i can capture this again.

The past month I've been chasing the sunrise at the same place because there are feeding birds at short distance.

Occasionally when cormorants or a large fish are underwater the anchovies all leap at the same time.

I've never caught video or stills.

Until today

Twice.

In the sunrise reflection.

What great footage! Thank-you so much for sharing something that many of us would never be able to see otherwise.

My son's back garden (which is wildlife friendly) abuts a greenbelt. Whenever I'm up helping him I'm always excited to see Northwestern garter snakes and Pacific tree frogs. He always jokes that I'm the only mom he knows that comes running to see a snake
See alt text for more info.
#snakes #frogs 🐍🐸
A Northwestern garter snake is cruising along through the back meadow area of my son's back garden. It is a shiny black with thin yellow to orangish stripes. The garter snake moved through the meadow and traveled along the edge of a raised garden. It is approximately 2 feet long, a beautiful well fed specimen. I kept hearing this Pacific tree frog and as I was picking up windfall apples it startled me as it hopped onto a camellia
leaf. I don't often get photos of them where you can see the slight blue above their eyes and tail end.

Here comes the wind and rain. This marks the first heavy rain with wind in a very long time. We'll see how the dahlias and other flowers fare tomorrow morning.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Toby is such a very good boy. He's waiting so patiently in the exam room for his wellness exam. It's so hard to believe he just turned 14 years old.

We really do have "The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle". I'm north of there.

Yes, mine are a variety called 'Hayward'. You need both a male and female vines. It took roughly 3 years before they really took off growing. The fruit is a bit smaller than what you get at the market. The flowers smell fantastic too!

The Mariners are my local team, and there was definitely some excitement on that play.
We're hoping they make it to the playoffs.
