When will administrations stop blaming faculty for everything,look in the mirror, and think that maybe they are asking for too much of us? Likely never if they spend their time reading articles in the Chronicle like this.

In my experience faculty also push back on change because change usually means more work. Focus on student mental health. Absolutely, that is really important. What should I stop doing to make time for that? The answer is always "well we need to keep doing everything else as well".

As for shortcuts, there was a cheating epidemic long before AI. Students cheat using AI for the same reasons they used a cheat sheet. We need to change the culture of grades and learning, and create more meaningful assignments.

It is going to take local personal engagement to reverse the tide. Just winning the house in the mid terms will not solve the problem. Just as Biden winning didn't solve the problem.
