This isn’t just about access; it’s about choice. Everyone deserves the option to eat healthy without it feeling like a financial or logistical marathon. No one should have to debate between buying lettuce or paying rent.

And even when there is fresh food nearby, it’s often way more expensive. Organic blueberries shouldn’t cost more than your hourly wage. “Health is wealth” shouldn’t be literal, but here we are.

Food deserts don’t happen randomly. They exist because of systemic inequality—underfunded communities, disinvestment, and decisions that prioritize profits over people. Meanwhile, Whole Foods is chilling in the suburbs like it’s VIP access only.

For folks in these areas, “healthy eating” isn’t a cute Pinterest board; it’s a privilege. Imagine trying to meal prep when your only options are instant noodles and chips. You can’t “just eat clean” if your closest spinach is two bus rides away.
