(Very) Slightly left-leaning moderate; Theologically conservative Christian; lover of coffee, The Beatles, Switchfoot, and reading. High school US History teacher & teacher leader.
The problem with Bluesky’s ideological bent is that because we’re incensed with Trump and the modern GOP, this place can be really depressing to open. They’re doing SO much that’s frustrating and he’s not even in office yet!

“Siri, optimize this headline to target true crime fanatics.”
“At first glance, the guidance of the Magi might lead us to conclude that we too should seek out those who can read constellations,” writes @drmoore.bsky.social.

“But the story of Jesus upends all that.”

Here’s the thing about the GOP that makes me the most frustrated. It’s FULL of people who claim to stand on the side of God & moral rightness, but they ultimately just follow the herd. Just a few GOP congressmen could slow/stop the most egregious wrongs, but I have no faith they will.

Had a missionary acquaintance DM me a screenshot of Trump’s Thanksgiving post in the middle of our family meal today.

I love Jesus & I love the church, but MAN do some folks make that difficult sometimes.

There are so many reasons to be thankful today! Enjoy your family, some good food, some board games, some football. Think about all the ways you’ve been blessed by God.

The things that frustrate you can be picked back up tomorrow if you really want them. If you can drop them today, do!

Finally got around to watching The Fall Guy and found it to be a surprisingly fun film. Good sense of humor, enjoyable action, crazy stunts. If you don’t need high drama but do want a really enjoyable film, this absolutely fits the bill.

Does anybody else have an issue on here where likes/replies don’t come through until hours after they happen?

One of the most difficult things for me to wrestle with as a Christian is how to believe in the exclusive nature of the Gospel while also allowing other people to make their own decisions about their own lives.

I really want to avoid letting this become an echo chamber. Can anybody recommend any non-MAGA conservatives on here?

(If there is such a thing as level-headed MAGA folks, I’d even consider following them, but I’m not sure that category exists.)

Just before handing out a test in the Civil War yesterday, a student raised her hand and asked “so when did the south secede? Was it after the Civil War?”

I’m not a perfect teacher by any means, but COME ON.

Who are the conservative but not MAGA voices on here? Do they exist? I want to make sure I’m not just creating a new echo chamber for myself here or we’re back to the other place.

Heck, if such a thing as “rational MAGA” exists, I might even give them a follow.

It’s genuinely exhausting figuring out what is legitimate news and what is fear-bait in the post-election US.

There is reason for real concern, but MAN are there a lot of articles now about “what might happen if…”. Let’s just stick to the awful things that are actually happening, mmmkay?

I’m so tired of the narrative that Trump is the only valid option for the (theologically) conservative evangelical Christian.

It’s BECAUSE I’m a theologically conservative evangelical Christian that I’m voting against him.

But, man, this position is a lonely one.

This new Dawes album is really growing on me. It took 2-3 listens, but this one is really solid. #ohbrother

So I’m a coffee lover, but I struggle to consistently get a great cup. I’ve got…

A burr grinder
Quality coffee
A good coffee maker
Scales

What’s your single most important coffee tip to get a great cup consistently?

I’m a high school US History / social studies teacher. Who should I be following on here?

I’m fan of actual downloadable PC software vs. online services.

Audacity, VLC, Irfanview, Paint.NET, and Notepad++ are just a few of the things I’ll immediately put on every new computer.

What’s your favorite piece of software in this category?

What’s your favorite year of Beatles history?

‘67 for me. They were at peak creativity and style. The psychedelic phase fit them so well.

‘69 is close because Abbey Road & the Get Back doc are amazing, but the inevitability of the end was very apparent by then, which makes it a bit of a bummer.

So is there a consensus yet for what we call posting on here? “Tweeting” feels passé, and “posting” feels blasé.

I’m out of other accented words so I won’t offer any further recommendations.

This Washington Post situation feels like another huge step in the race to make 1984 a reality.

Anybody know how to change what this site thinks we’re interested in? My feed is flooded with cutesy anime characters which I’m really not into.

I keep hitting “show me less like this” and it’s only marginally helpful. Super frustrating.

One of my favorite activities is to give my students copies of the various southern states’ articles of secession and ask them to determine whether they believe the primary reason was states’ rights or slavery. We always have fascinating discussions.
