In a woodcut released today the Guild of Thieves and Cutpurses declared that enforcement of regulations against Thieving and Pursecutting would ‘devastate a growth industry’ and damage the economy.

If I’m Oscar Piastri I’d race with gloves off from now on. Constructors is done, no need to help my teammate anymore, especially if my teammate is going to collide with me during the race.

Well they stayed in power for another 12 years.

Did it achieve the *stated* policy objectives? No, it was a total failure.

But the stated objectives weren’t the actual objectives.

Refugee protection is the definition of a collective action problem. Can the UK on its own solve that problem? No. The system has been collectively broken and it can only be collectively fixed. But, what the UK can do on its own is NOT MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE. #KeirStarmer
negsaunders.bsky.social
Actually, I take that back. It’s not stupidity because Starmer’s not a moron. It’s so much more insidious than stupidity. It’s naked political opportunism on the backs of some of society’s most vulnerable people and it’s beyond deplorable.
negsaunders.bsky.social
So the Starmer of the conference speech didn’t even last 24 hours…
danielsohege.bsky.social
It isn't international law which is the issue. It is politicians like Starmer demonising migrants and stripping them off rights.

When you start talking about reducing access to rights for one group you open the door for someone else to end them for others.

A meme for the modern university...
Meme showing a worker labelled "academic staff" digging a hole in the ground while 10 others look labelled with management titles such as "Director of Human Resources" look on. The caption underneath reads "The only way we can cut costs is to reduce the number of academic staff..."

And it’s going to take a hell of a lot more than one speech given his appalling rhetoric for months on end, dancing to Farage’s tune, and this obscene ‘settled status in exchange for indentured servitude’ plan they’re cooking up.

hardly anyone will watch Starmer's appearance at Labour conference today but it was probably the best speech he's ever given

he clearly signposted what he stands for - a diverse, tolerant, decent Britain - and how be believes progressives are in an existential fight with the populist right

It really is just relentless the constant dehumanisation in this country. Prove you deserve to be here. Prove you deserve to be cared for. Prove your gender. Prove you deserve to have human rights. Prove you deserve to stay after a whole decade. It just chisels away at your humanity

Just fuck off with this. How about start the conversation by highlighting how much immigrants contribute to the UK - not least by propping up the NHS and social care system!

Also - forced volunteering is not volunteering, it's unpaid labour.

Dear Immigrant. When you’ve finished your night shift at A&E, please spend a couple of hours picking litter in the park or we’ll kick you out. Yours, the Labour Party

“Let’s call it for what it is: bullshit. The truth is, politicians have talked about little else but immigration for decades and in the most dehumanising ways.

Polanski added: “Stop the boats’ is all we hear. Well, today I'm saying ‘stop the bullshit’.”

Migrants already have to demonstrate their immigration status to be able to work, rent etc. Key thing when talking about "undocumented" migrants is they are undocumented, and those employing them know it, so an additional form of ID makes absolutely sod all difference.

www.bbc.com/news/article...
Announcing the scheme, Sir Keir said: "You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It's as simple as that."

The government says the scheme is designed to curb illegal immigration by making it harder for people without status to find jobs. Ministers argue this is one of the key pull factors for migrants entering the UK illegally.

Employers will no longer be able to rely on a National Insurance number - which is currently used as part of proof of right to work - or paper-based checks.

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.
negsaunders.bsky.social
That should say shirt sponsor, not short!
negsaunders.bsky.social
Its been a plague on British society for years. You can’t watch any sport on TV now without being bombarded in every ad break with betting ads. Betting firms are short sponsors, stadium sponsors, advertise at stadiums and in programmes. It’s EVERYWHERE, and it’s utterly awful.

Deep sigh... Okay, for those at the back who missed out on the whole fact that asylum seekers and other migrants already have arduous ID checks, or that, by the very nature of people being undocumented additional, id's are irrelevant in this context. 1/3

The only possible silver lining in this game is that a Utd win will mean Amorim keeps being Utd manager for a while.

But, since that silver lining helps me not one bit as a Chelsea fan: screw you Robert Sanchez.
