Appears so, strange times these.

Aha! Thought it looked a bit strange. He was Royal Engineers attached to the Royal Ulster Rifles and landed at Sword.

Thank god the Americans had better leaders back then!

Illaunloughan • Kerry

This tiny early monastic island has an oratory, a clochán, a well and a gable-shrine on a leacht (drystone altar).

The monastery was excavated in the 1990s by Claire Walsh and Jenny White Marshall, who found that the monastery generally dated between the 7th–9th centuries.

New paper. Recording the female experience of UK archaeology 1990-2010. Anne Teather and I document how an industry EDI agenda evolved in the 1990s and was dismantled, uncovering the ramifications of that for women archaeologists over the next decade.

It's funny how some games creep back into your mind like that.

I've been feeling the same way about Fallout lately. I absolutely do not have the time for it, but still, the hook is there.

Given how intelligent octopuses* are, I wonder if these were the smartest creatures on the planet 300m years ago?

*is the plural octopuses, octopi or octopodes?

Goniatite fossils packed throughout this piece of shale. The shells of these ancient relatives of Squid and Octopus must have littered the sea floor that covered this part of the earths surface over 300 million years ago.

Agree in principle. Tougher battle with the horses as it has a lot more involved. But lord knows why they back a sport that has such little public support

Not sure if they are involved. Pretty sure Matty McGrath is. Might be one of those independent alliance demands

They've actually increased the budget wtf?

Did they increase the funding for the animal rescue centres that deal with the aftermath?

'Prayer Stone’ • Inis Mór

This small stone was found at Temple Breccan on Inis Mór. The stone bears an Irish inscription:

OR[ÓlT] AR BRAN N AILITHER

'Pray for Bran the Pilgrim'.

It is likely to date to c.8-10th century. You can see it on display in the National Museum of Ireland.

#Ireland
A small round stone with a flat top incised with a cross. It bears an inscription in early Irish Temple Brecan (also known as the Seven Churches) on Inis Mór, the Aran Islands. The ruins of stone medieval churches underneath a bright blue sky with wisps of white cloud.

If I were of a conspiracy theorist mindset, I would think that there was something deliberate in the constant undermining and underfunding of subjects like media studies, sociology, history, etc.

Being taught how to evaluate sources, identify bias, and understand context are critical life skills.

Yep, the thieves ditched the safe in the skip. Thankfully they didn't think to open the envelope in the safe that contained the hoard.

You mean you didn't get immersed in the question of why Frogger needs to cross the road?
neiljackman.bsky.social
I'd be similar. There's certain games that just absolutely immerse you when the story is compelling.

But then there's the likes of Helldivers etc where it's just all about switching your brain off and blasting away. Both have their place
