Domestic cats are invasive species, not part of a balanced ecosystem. Unlike wild predators, their numbers aren't limited by prey availability because humans feed them. This "subsidized" population allows them to hunt native species to extinction without their own numbers dropping.

The UK press (you know who) has some part in this, publishing stories about 'Violent Crime' rates in the London/UK being much higher than US cities, but not reporting that violent crime has very different definitions in US stats than the UK.
