I argue that we need to stop "buying development results" and start thinking about how aid can be used in transformational ways to support domestic reform actors achieve change in ways that are consistent with the politics of the context.

There has been lots of discussion on LinkedIn and everywhere about the future of aid. Some say it needs to "do more with less", others say we need to prioritise only global public goods. I have a different take on the issue, just published on the LSE blog and The Policy Practice.

Today I finished my #paddleforpalestine at Westminster and met my MP @anneliesedoddsmp.bsky.social to ask her to press the government to: stop selling military equipment to Israel; impose sanctions on Israel until they respect international humanitarian law; and recognise the state of Palestine.

This is urgent, necessary viewing for all of us. Things are moving so fast as the global power structures shift — we must be fully cognisant of what it means for us.
@carolecadwalla.bsky.social speaks with integrity & huge knowledge. I trust her.

During 'Unearthed', our concert on Friday 28 March we'll be singing three songs by Clara Schuman setting music to the poetry of Emanuel Geibel. Clara Schumann was a trailblazer in the world of classical music. 🧵
A black and white lithograph of Clara Wieck (later Clara Schumann) created by Andreas Staub in 1839. Clara, a young woman with a serene expression, is depicted wearing a dark dress with a lace collar and a shawl. Her hair is styled in a braided updo with a ribbon.

I this letter to the FT I argue with @neilmcculloch.bsky.social and @garethwilliams.bsky.social that in response to unprecedented cuts, development aid ought to focus on locally-led change, not more $ for multilaterals

A great letter from @ciffchild.bsky.social and others. @anneliesedoddsmp.bsky.social - now you have shown the courage to resign, please campaign for a new approach

Our letter to the Prime Minister expressing deep concern regarding his decision to cut ODA.

This will have a direct and devastating impact on the lives of millions. The aid budget is an important instrument for long-term stability and economic partnership. We hope the government will reconsider.

They show just how brutal these cuts are likely to be relative to previous cuts. We will soon be spending less real aid as a share of our GNI than Thatcher. Shame on Labour @anneliesedoddsmp.bsky.social
