I make computers do things they don't want to. It's harder with people. I once wrote a blog at https://nemzes.net.

Teal is not a real color.

Some flags, because why not:

I learnt to drive on those roads. 😅 I really, really prefer zipper merges as used in Scandinavia; the give-way into traffic driving 120km/h in Portugal is *insane*.

Unfortunately you can't use that with a family. And is the daily cap really a thing? I find no information about that.

Yep, it's been our lifesaver several times, especially going a bit further into the suburbs to visit acquaintances/family.

The metro is indeed nice (although working escalators are rare), but if you go outside its network you're dependent on traffic-stuck transport. For visitors, especially with family, you have no economic multimodal tickets: everywhere you see tourists trying to navigate buying tickets.

Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful city; it's just sad to see it disappear under exhaust smoke and rubber dust.

Yes, you can get around, but the public transport is complicated, and half the time you end up stuck in the same endless traffic jams as all the cars. Forget about riding a bike, unless you have a death wish. As for walking, you must navigate the badly parked cars and the car-centric layout.

You can get one that works "everywhere" but you have to pay for each stretch separately. And there's no family period ticket, so you pay a fortune to get around. It gets easily cheaper to get an Uber.

The chair is demanding better terms and it's picketing outside until it gets what it wants.

Finally @mmitchell.bsky.social explains why generative AI hype can blind us to the AI breakthroughs that we should really celebrate. www.technologyreview.com/2025/12/15/1...
Generative AI hype distracts us from AI’s more important breakthroughs
It's a seductive distraction from the advances in AI that are most likely to improve or even save your life

If the Vatican has any business sense at all they should be partnering up with Nvidia to build their own HolyCloud AI Deity Enablement Platform, ASAP.

Old Russian joke. Every day a guy goes to a newsstand and carefully scans the front page headlines, clearly looking for something specific. One day the clerk running the stand asks what he's looking for. Guy says an obituary. Clerk says those are in the back. Guy says, not the one I'm hoping for.
