There is never any doubt about what emotion Cameron Menzies is experiencing at any time.

I like Bill - of course - but he really should've retired or gone into broadcasting. Some people just don't seem to know when to bow out on a high.

The human genome is pleased to announce that it has been acquired by GalactiComm in a transaction involving 56 quadrillion UltraCredits in cash, stock and population indentures. Humanity will remain an independent brand and organisation under the GalactiComm banner and is expected to flourish […]

#notifications on #Mastodon (or perhaps just this instance) seem to be a bit flaky right now.

Twice in the last couple of days now I've noticed someone's reply to me passing through the home timeline or appearing in a pinned list but there's been no notification of it and if I'd not spotted it […]

Months ago a comedy sketch aired in China about a fictional company called "Pretend to Work" where people pay to come to the office and slack off. Now, a number of real-world businesses have made that a reality — and The Dial's Lavender Au says it's a consequence of China's economic downtown […]

Aaron had some shockers early on in the series but it feels like he's really found his feet now. Probably the kiss of death there.

Side point on #chatcontrol: When I worked on the law in the European Parliament, in the face of questionably legal, and highly problematic behavior by DG HOME, I prepared a whitepaper on why it was such a terrible Idea.

As it is in the public interest, I have decided to make that white paper […]

Just finished reading The Doors of Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Lesbian main characters, a trans scientist, overt bigotry, government agents, and because it's a Tchaikovsky book of course there is lots of biological evolution too. Parallel Earths, complicated […]

A book cover with an image showing a night view framed through the gap in two standing stones. We can see a snowy, undulating landscape with some footprints leading away to a figure walking away in the distance. A huge moon is rising over the horizon and the sky is one filled with stars. The author's name Adrian Tchaikovsky is above the title The Doors Of Eden.

Looking through photos from #onthisday for something I do on Instagram and in 2010 I apparently captured a rare sighting of the Horse Pride colours out in the wild.

It's a cool, overcast day and we're looking into a small field of short, vibrant green grass dotted with areas where the soft turf has been slightly churned up. There are two trees in the background, both with thick trunks and the lowest parts of their green, leafy branches just in view at the top of the image on the right. A small fence of rope connected to poles separates this part of the field from a section of it behind the trees and a low hedgerow breaks both from another less grassy field in the distance. In the centre of the image we're looking at a grey horse with head down to nibble at the grass. It has a horse blanket around it with overall beige tones but lined with repeating bands of horizontal stripes of light blue, pink, purple, and gold.

I have no real idea. I only caught a little of it when it was all blowing up then tuned out. I think there was reference to "waffles" being taken as a slur, then accusations that Jay was taking on the role of Elon. I didn't really catch any conversations about moderation at the […]

Bearing in mind that we're supposed to be scaling back our #Travel plans over the next few years to save for something big for our 20th wedding anniversary in 2028 I've just done a quick count-up and realised we've got plans to visit 24 countries over the next two years. We are bad at this.

My wife never ceases to find it amusing when northerners pronounce "comfortable" or "vegetable" with four syllables.

Yeah, a bit of consistency would be nice, but then again it's not as if we don't see hosts on other quizzes sometimes being lenient, sometimes being finicky.

Ooh, limited edition flavour crisps!

We must buy them!

We must try them!

Christ, they're terrible, no wonder they're limited edition.

We should learn from this and not buy limited edition flavour crisps in the future.

But we won't.

And the cycle starts again.

I'd be happiest with widespread adoption of Jeopardy-style timer lights counting down to force an answer within a few seconds.

Just think what scores we could have on #UniversityChallenge if Amol rattled through all the questions with the pace he does for the final five minutes.

It won't last but we are consistently getting the #onlyconnect answers before the teams at the moment.

That feels like too much driving around to count as a holiday for us these days. Used to do it - trips to Wales and Scotland - but we've got use to the ships taking the strain now.

However, very fond of Portugal - although we've not visited the Algarve part - so […]

Today has most certainly been... a day. But thankfully there's only one more Monday of work to get through before we can have a nice little holiday.
