i wouldn't know, i don't usually tend to follow the latest releases. i just saw a clip where it showed up multiple times winning categories and thought it was pretty funny.

yeah i figured, i can definitely see it. i remember yoh yoshinari did tributes.
i don't think it'd be impossible to do something more that can be more serious at times with influence from rod's style however, i've kinda been wanting to do it with my personal ideas even though i lean towards comedy.

it doesn't help one of the concepts for my thing has been too similar to another thing and just has demotivated me from doing that in ways, idk atm i'm just kind of suffering as an artist

I think if anything could be applied from it it’s probably gestural (rod’s work had a big focus on flow on looney tunes) but you’ve already got that covered, also his work does vary quite a bit but if you’re thinking purely of the 40’s stuff I can understand since the aim is different

him putting rod’s name next to spumco as if they’re the same thing makes my blood boil, I really hate how much his work has been tainted by these types. he’s a massive influence to me so It’s very disheartening to see his legacy is just the guy who influenced spumco or whatever.

i get having a preference but he was really discrediting electronic music talking about it it's like he probably based his viewpoint of like one or two things he heard and was like Ermm this is not traditional cartoon scoring what is this bleep bloop crap!!!!

from what i've seen all the guys that stem from spumco or games or whatever thinks their way of cartooning is the THE WAY and what pisses me off is that it gets passed off as if it is even though it's total fucking bullshit, like you're just limiting the artform, get a fucking grip.

and i'm not gonna claim i do but like if you just look the motions and shit he'd do it's so clunky and awful, especially in ted bakes one from 1981, like HOLY FUCK is that thing filled with awkward timing and inbetweening and like i know it's an early one but it really shows how little he knows

He was always just full of bullshit, he said people who aren’t creative or whatever would be looked down upon but wouldn’t you see the animation has barely creative liberties at times and are just direct translations of the layouts, unlike clampett’s method that allowed animators to Interpret them

i think what’s funny with John is that he’s heavily influenced by looney tunes and the writers are definitely a part of what made the mentalities of the characters, even in clampett cartoons. (which he claims is his biggest influence despite ripping off Chuck jones layout for ren and stimpy)
