so far I've read, a couple times for each scenario:
1. someone walked into an audition with the instrument
2. it was in an estate, the thief's kids tried to auction it and the serial number or description was flagged
3. a friend spotted it and called the musician

without PvP, it's just walking and raiding cabinets and occasionally going up against a harder enemy. most of PvP is getting ambushed and losing all your stuff. if you force PvP too much in order to not keep losing, you get placed in higher player aggro matches...

yes it's definitely a skill issue when you get into a room and get shot from someone hiding in a dark corner. it's not my job to provide Embark with ideas for fixing their game
