It's good to remember, though, that there was a time when Islam valued learning, science, and exploration. The Abbasid Caliphate was a golden age... though, like all golden ages, the tale has likely grown in the telling.

It's easy to romanticize the age of Arabic exploration, and the voyages merchant princes in dhow took, but those voyages were dangerous, and for every one which returned from India or China with wealth, many were never seen again.

I have long been, and remain, a Ray Harryhausen fan. In an age before computer graphics, he brought fantastic creatures to life and made possible movies that otherwise could not have been.

Yes; fourth grade was a long time ago, and I have a lot of experience with coping strategies, but I still end up offending people who take my efforts at clarity as belittling them or disrespecting their intelligence.

But yes, my reaction to "what's right?" is almost always to look it up, because I have a learning difficulty which makes translation between symbols and meaning difficult.

I know my precision with language makes me sound pedantic, but it's generally to be sure I understand.

According to the Oxford American Dictionary, Moxie was a brand name for a "nerve tonic" soft drink in the 1930s, and today, either the ie or y spelling is considered correct.
