That's the problem with everything depending on streaming and "the cloud," and it's one aspect of why I keep all my media files on a drive that I own. In addition to my wonderful paper books, of course.

Depends on the file format. Amazon and Audible could potentially "un-own" your books from you. Epub and other non-DRM formats are just files that live on your device and aren't controlled by anyone but you. You can back them up on your hard drive anywhere else.

Niko Stratis's The Dad Rock that Made Me A Woman has been such a delight to read so far, also "Sara or "I lived my life as a cloud that followed overhead"" by my friend Never Angeline North. I just started it but from seeing her read excerpts from it recently I can tell it's going to be up there

I'm glad Halle ended up publishing with Curbside Splendor though because they had distribution and promotion and could print more than 100 copies at once--all kinds of things that we didn't.
