The shutdown happened because Republicans are so hated, they had to find something to blame on the Democrats. If they're really so worried about keeping the gov't open, they don't need Dems for that. All they have to do is kill the filibuster and call for a vote. But they won't. Wonder why? Hmm...

Hegseth's vilest revision will make it virtually impossible to prosecute sexual assaults in the military. And all charges of criminal sexual activity will henceforth be purged from soldiers' service records.

There were one or two moments of sparse chuckles after a couple of Trump's typically unfunny, vaguely threatening "jokes." But it wasn't the laughter of the amused. It was the awkward chuckle of a coworker who's just had something horribly inappropriate said to them by the boss. You know that laugh.

The most striking thing about Trump's speech is that not a single officer stood or applauded when he walked onto the stage to the strains of "Hail to the Chief." From the grim expressions on their faces, I expect many of them were prepared to resign if necessary.

I watched Trump's address, and it's a miserable thing, not worth an atom of your time. 73 minutes of tired old Trump congratulating himself. Imagine babysitting a sociopathic toddler who spends the entire time telling you how he made a poo-poo. It's like that.

The tarantula hawk is one of the largest of all wasps, with an excruciating sting that is second only to the South American bullet ant on the Schmidt sting pain index. Fortunately, they are not aggressive, and will only sting humans who try to handle them. Tarantulas are not so fortunate.

We were meeting with a New Mexico rancher last week when this enormous and very dramatic-looking insect scuttled calmly between our boots without so much as a by-your-leave. This dapper fellow is a tarantula hawk.
