In 2013, Baton Rouge Water Co. spent $3 million to drill twin wells along North Street to intercept underground salt water creeping north toward an important drinking water pump station.

An interesting allegation is that the plants told EPA about their pollution discharges into the river but didn't tell La. DEQ. The discharges were reported in EPA's public Toxics Release Inventory database, but DEQ apparently doesn't check TRI. TRI is made up of industry reported pollution data.

Environmental groups allege Louisiana plants illegally polluting Calcasieu River
The plaintiffs are asking the federal court to declare the companies in violation of the Clean Water Act.
