Google Pixel phones are tweaking certain emoji designs to match iPhone in the latest Android 16 Beta

Good news? This bridges the gap and makes emoji easier to recognize for switchers. The bad news? Like the death of blobs, it takes away some expression and charm

My review of the Pixel 10 Pro XL is up on
@9to5google

- Tensor G5 runs way cooler ❄️
- Cameras are good, a bit disappointing 📸
- Battery life is a little underwhelming 🔋
- Qi2 brings me nothing but joy 🙌
- The best AI features are the ones you don't have to think about ✨

Also absolutely THRILLED that Nomad is finally making Pixel Watch bands. And, surprise! I've had an early sample since January

This is easily the most premium third-party Pixel Watch band and I can't wait to see this new brown one age with time

Pixel 10 event!

A lot of thoughts on the event itself, but the phones are the main focus. I *love* the vibrant blues this year (RIP Pro) and Google really did a great job refining this design. Excited to move into the Pixel 10 Pro XL soon

Also Qi2!

Stay tuned to @9to5google.com !

"Qi2 25W" is coming to "major Android smartphones," and it's pretty obvious Google is first in line 👀

- Google contributed to Qi 2.2 standard
- Rumors of "Pixelsnap" accessories, leaks mention "Qi2" by name

My hype levels just went way up!

If you're curious about the legitimacy of that Nothing Phone (3) design, I literally put the puzzle pieces together from the company's official teasers

Nothing compared the Phone (3a)'s camera to the iPhone this week, and the video portion pretty obviously shows the Phone (3a) looking much better.

That's because the iPhone was in ultrawide mode.

This happens just after the presenters say settings were changed to "make it fair"

This is the vibe of Galaxy S25 Ultra
February 6, 2025 at 9:10 PM
Samsung is using the same formula over and over and I'm tired of it – but it *does* work

My Galaxy S25 Ultra review: 9to5google.com/2025/02/05/s...

I did not think I'd like the Galaxy S25 Ultra... yet

📱Hardware upgrades that matter
👍One UI 7 is big, it makes everything feel faster and better
✨Gemini is the best part of "Galaxy AI"
📸Camera is noticeably better, still needs work

Samsung just gave Good Lock a desperately needed overhaul. Way easier to use and understand!

Samsung's One UI 7 update – Galaxy S25 or not – changes how lock screen notifications work.

Bright side? You can finally see full notifications.

Downside? The default just puts icons in the status bar, basically making them invisible

Got the chance to try out @Halliday_Global at #CES2025 and they seem pretty good!

Display gives me Google Glass vibes, but in a good way. Software is simple, but feels like a good foundation. These are promising, and for under $500, I'm looking forward to using them more

In August 2024, this "non-magnetic" page was used to explain that Qi2 branding could be used without magnets. Contrary to literally everything we'd heard, and the only place this was mentioned

The page was deleted *a week* after it was highlighted

When Qi2 as a standard was *finalized* in November 2023, this was all made abundantly clear.

Verizon's Message+ app is officially dead, and users cannot use it *at all* with a full screen pop-up preventing access to messages.

They'll need to switch over to Google Messages (or another SMS app) to get them back

Big news: Google just officially gave the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold two more years of Android OS updates!

Writing was on the wall for this when Pixel 6 got Android 16, but now it's officially in writing

Samsung's One UI 7 update is *really* big

The full changelog is insanely long, and even just capturing the notable features, it's a big update.

Samsung finally switched to a vertical app drawer.

This is not a drill, I repeat, Samsung finally switched to a vertical app drawer! And, crucially, it's the only option.

One UI 7 is officially a good update

This is absurdly overdue, but I finally reviewed the Nothing Ear trio.

The short version – I truly believe these are the best earbuds you can buy, full stop.
