these songs are what I'd call "the soundtrack to the fall of USSR".

obviously the lead singer yegor letov had lots of trouble with kgb and was involuntarily committed to the psych ward for a period of time. i don't vibe with probably 90% of his creative output but the few things I do like hit super hard and have stayed in my playlist for years.

the song is pretty much what you'd expect - about being the "ice under the major's feet" as a futile but stubborn act of resistance.
there's many more layers to it it's one of my favorite tracks by that band.

especially in high profile apps where each team does pointless pixelfucking concentrated on their own feature and not caring about experience as a whole. guess it's about to get a lot worse :(

yeah it really sucks. already most of the things I interact with on my computer outside of ide and games are web-based and it's torture. jank is bad enough, but it also seems like "ux design" has failed as a discipline,

What was it?

(I really want that prediction to be wrong though)

Well if a PC capable of hallucinating those frames, has an unattainable price anyway, it doesn't matter how fast/cheap it can hallucinate. So I could see a future where as a developer you kind of have to be on some cloud streaming service to reach any audience at all.

don't give them ideas 😬

I am trying to tell myself that the bonkers hardware prices will change that trajectory, but realistically it probably just means more cloud gaming push...

yeah possible that it's a limitation imposed by the software stack not the GPU itself. though I don't really know a good reason why that would be the case..

I just carefully walked around them. Having to shoot them was giving me genuine psychic damage.

(tbh I have not seen a GPU that can't do 32bit fp depth in a really long time but it sounds like thats what OP is dealing with)
January 5, 2026 at 10:22 AM
would the reverse z trick still work on a 24 bit depth buffer though? afaiu the whole reason it works in the first place has to do with how floats are encoded. but with 24 bits idk how much we can rely on this encoding. it might not be even floating point for all we know?

What is the context of this?
