Ahhhh take your steamy however you can!
January 24, 2026 at 6:23 AM
Sounds like a steamy read to me!
January 24, 2026 at 6:13 AM
They both leave the same footprints in the snow ....
January 24, 2026 at 2:24 AM
"Put up your hands - really slowly"
January 23, 2026 at 1:50 AM
And use more joiny words - "out of the window" and not "out the window"
January 22, 2026 at 6:28 PM
I only use it to have email on my own domain - wainkers
January 22, 2026 at 4:18 AM
Gwyneth would have been a disappointment
January 22, 2026 at 2:17 AM
It would be hard to stay suicidal with those babies to play with
January 22, 2026 at 1:57 AM
That's a version of the film I'd like to see
January 22, 2026 at 1:48 AM
Yep he spoke well (given all he can is report what he is told).
January 22, 2026 at 1:04 AM
Ah OK thanks - I don't track these folk
January 22, 2026 at 12:53 AM
There is urban search and rescue on site trying to find people.

"Why is Mitchell there?"

Representing the police?
January 22, 2026 at 12:42 AM
Yeah if it is 1 in 100 years event, how come we had a house sliding down a hill in Tauranga in May 2005 - not to mention other significant rain events since. Cyclone Gabrielle was 3 years ago FFS
January 22, 2026 at 12:39 AM
Mark Mitchell just spoke to the press there and I could see Uffindell (MP) and Drysdale (Mayor) in the background.

It hasn't rained for 10 hours. The slip at the campgrounds happened well after the rain had stopped
January 22, 2026 at 12:13 AM
That's an awful sight, really hope there aren't people trapped.
January 21, 2026 at 10:31 PM
Very much so. The lucky thing is that it happened in daylight rather than during the night with people asleep.
January 21, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Very - and the worst of it was after the sun went down yesterday - another 130mm onto ground that was already sodden. And of course on hills, all of the rain still flowing to lower ground which is causing all of the slips
January 21, 2026 at 9:48 PM
This slip happened within the past hour or so

Absolutely. But that won't happen with this current mob
January 21, 2026 at 9:14 PM
"at the very least any mining (or forestry) co should be required to leave the aera no worse than it was."

But that is really hard to pin down. Companies can change name, go bankrupt, do all sorts of corporate chicanery in order to wriggle out of those liabilities. Bastards

A lot of BOP was sorted for stormwater issues back in 2005 (the flood that caused houses to slide down hills). But still a fair number of slips around the rural parts. Coromandel worst hit yesterday and luckily not Northland after their floods a few days before.
January 21, 2026 at 7:09 PM
Yeah no problem. You probably had the same amount of rain!
January 21, 2026 at 6:39 PM
The final score ...

We finished up with 304.5mm between Tuesday midday and about 4am today. Hardest rain was 1 - 2 am today.

For reference that is more rain than we had in Quarter 1, 2025 - 3 months worth of rain in 40 hours.
