New blog: The Wrong Terrain: LLMs and Education

Or, why getting a Gramsci quote wrong shows that humans can make LLM-level mistakes too (and that is fine) and why it is always helpful to know your onions about schools before talking in moral absolutes.

My response to the Forbes piece titled 'Why Agency is the New Literacy' in relation to LLM use in schools.

Essentially, we need to think more about the structures we operate in. A respectful disagreement with colleagues who I admire a great deal! nickdennisnrd.substack.com/p/agency-is-...

What might Karl Marx, writing over a century ago, have to say about how we use and think about LLMs today?

With term starting shortly, I'm finishing prep for upcoming discussions with my A-level Politics class. When teaching ideologies, the question always is: how relevant are key thinkers today?

What is time? It turns out the answer to that is more complicated and more interesting than I had realised. Fascinating range of facts complemented with gorgeous illustrations by Lucy Rose.

If you use AI in your school and have not read this book, you should. The critical view on how AI has been developed and sold will create questions about how it aligns with your school vision, notions or fairness and safeguarding practices.
