My path was more tortuous. Before I got my own personal laptop (2006), I would just trawl "deep cable" channels for anime. Some shows would get a game or toys, which would boost visibility. A lot of shops near me stocked anime, but "was it for kids?"

I saw the new Chainsaw Man last night, blind (not having watched the anime or read the manga). It’s pretty cool. Classic Devilman is a favorite, and Look Back was pretty good, so it was interesting seeing some of those ideas mixed here. Very expressive animation too.
