Yeah, I think you're probably right, that thought was going through my head as well. The "imitation of an emerging insect" deception is a maybe little less convincing lower in the water column? Honestly, these fish baffle me still.

One day, oh enlightened Llama, I aspire to the chill mindset while swinging flies. The physiological reflex is fine, I love swinging with the tenkara and single hand, but the idea a steelhead may be nearby has me edgy, every inch of the way, every cast.

That's a great idea point. I have a ton of Teeny-dyed PT and the hooks he marketed, I should tie some of those up.

Yes there is something wrong with me in terms of voluntarily making something challenging that I cannot do very effectively even harder. But isn’t that the name of the fly fishing game?

You're right, that was an unclear association on my part! I love recommending the book to folks who are curious about the sport, as it's a great gateway drug to fly tying. I didn't intend to paint you as a non-angler, was hoping to amplify your enthusiasm.
