'The Scottish Government has already made it clear that it will not be supporting the Council with this project [#EdinburghTram]'. Odd then that it specifically includes potential for tram in its current Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR2) for Edinburgh and South East Scotland Mass Transit.

The town near where I grew up in Yorkshire is covered in flags. And from talking to a young Muslim student and an older Reform-voter it’s clear that the intention behind them is, well, far from benign.

Always have mixed feelings visiting Soviet war memorials given how the occupying forces behaved in Germany and the current conflict in Ukraine, but there’s something very poignant about a war grave for seven unknown soldiers dating from 10 June 1981.

Lovely book from @lewisbaston.bsky.social. Well-researched, witty, informative and a pleasure to read. Would recommend it to anyone with an interest the phenomenon of European land borders.

Berlin - Barcelona in just over 24 hours. Four trains (3 long, 1 short, 1 sleeper). Joined up railways and no borders are a fine thing.

That’s twice now I’ve see the German Socialists and Greens put forward a joint candidate for local mayoral elections in Berlin. Can’t see that catching on in the UK.

Frankfurt an der Oder - Gdańsk, 353 kilometres, 65 zloty (£13.00) (with 60+ discount of 30%). Top tip, don’t buy an Interrail for journeys east of Germany.

City of Edinburgh Council is seeking views on the new north-south tram route. Trams make sense economically, environmentally and socially. Let's have a proper network across the city.

Children’s railways were set up across Central and Eastern Europe to give kids experience of running a real train system. Some such as the Wuhlheide Park Railway in #Berlin still exist. Long may they last.
