Any country that allows fascists to get elected rather than punched in the face and jailed could well be described as broken.

Bluesky isn't a competition. It's a place to chill and talk rubbish with a small group of like-minded friends.

Anyone who follows more than a thousand or so accounts on Bluesky is probably a bot, or is ignoring most posts. Life is too short to keep up with posts from more than a couple of hundred.

Dear <insert name of politician here>

Have you been on TV or radio today and said that Trump is f*cking insane?

If not, why not? Are you also a Nazi?

Agreements between the US government and other countries are not binding on the US

It's wonderful!

Dunno if it's available as TrueType or similar - getting the kerning to work and handling the double letters would be a nightmare.

Poor baby! I hope she recovered quickly from the surgery

I wouldn't emphasise the Tre-. I'd emphasise the penultimate syllable.

Gets a bit more complicated if there are hyphens Ton-yr-efail, Pont-y-pridd, Tal-y-bont

And, think about it, could a town called 'Merthyr Tudful' be anywhere BUT in Cymru? Venezuela? Senegal?

Ok, if they'd said New quay or Newcastle they may have had a case.

Might be a good time to reconsider the evidence?

<cough> as Tom Lehrer observed about Kissinger being awarded the Peace prize for bombing Cambodia into the Stone Age

I'm guessing it's a 5000km walk from Paris to Moscow and back, in mid-winter, dressed as Napoleon Bonaparte?

I think that puts Greenland within Scottish territorial waters.

Can a Nobel Peace Prize be withdrawn or annulled for bringing the award into disrepute?

I seem to remember that pumps for lorry diesel do actually have the little clicky things in the UK, 'cos they take ages to fill a 150-200l tank.

Presumably they have them in the US because even little urban runabouts have 100 gallon tanks?

Play Diplomacy. Soon you won't have any friends.

When people started keeping koi carp in un-netted ponds in their gardens?

Look on the bright side - when genAI collapses in a year or two the second-hand market will be flooded. They'll be giving 8TB drives away with a packet of Doritos.

The New European/World one is quite good - not tooooo brain-straining.
January 17, 2026 at 12:15 PM
But the real benefits - SM, CU, FoM aren't going to be available as a cut-price Division 4 (West).

I suggest that best option is a 'UK' tier with full membership but without any voting rights. We get the benefits, EU doesn't take any risks.

There was another, more recent conversion, John Burnett Hall, always called the Atholl (former hotel name). Very traditional, St Andrews!
January 17, 2026 at 12:03 AM
At St Andrews in the 70s, Macintosh Hall was always called Chattan. It had been the Chattan Hotel until 1921. I suspect today's students probably still call it Chattan.

Let Russia benefit from its armed aggression and war-crimes, and then pretend nothing happened, and let them regroup ready to invade again from the new border? Yes?

Brilliant idea. Give whoever thought that one up a Nobel Peace Prize.

This war ends when Russia is incapable of fighting ever again

Block, block blockety block. I find the mute words list can eliminate a lot of the crud.

Why does the EU price cap exist?

Why is the EU buying ANY oil from Russia?

Have they never heard of the concept of sanctions? It means more than banning a few of Putin's relatives from Harrods.
