I found an old invoice for a piece I wrote in 1999, at £190/thou. According to the inflation calculator, that would be about £370 today.

And that's not accounting for the rights grab, requirement to take the damn photos, and probably stuff it in the CMS yourself too.

Yep; and has - perhaps surprisingly - grown in stature over the years.

Interesting to recall, though, that amongst the things that tarnished his government was another set of sex scandals, albeit ones he wasn't so connected to.

More seriously, turning a blind eye just begets more of the same. Once one party makes it clear that shameless fuckery is no longer a resigning issue, the rest are going to follow suit.

A lot of people probably bought the "they were near enough 18" line, and shrugged, because it's easier to deal with "there but for the grace ..." than to realise that you've been utterly fooled by a horrible, evil creep and your judgement maybe isn't as good as you thought it was.
