The very first issue of Fandom | Cultures | Research is out now! I only joined the editorial board in October but it's still been amazing seeing this come to life. And we've already got some exciting research lined up for the next issues!

Wonderful day at Comicfestival Hamburg, talking about the creative, academic & political potential (& challenges) of fanfic, listening to fan comic readings, interesting podiums and presentations and a great talk by my colleague Vanessa Ossa on the specifics of comic fandom.

The CfP for the 1st themed issue of our journal Fandom | Cultures | Research is out & I'm especially excited for this one, since it combines two of the things I'm most interested in: #fanstudies & #memorystudies. Added bonus: a workshop in Marburg in Feb 26.

Issue 1|25 of Fandom | Cultures | Research has been published! It not only includes articles, book reviews, and conference reports (including on our Fanficforum Frankfurt conference in Jan.). We've also opened a new section for Fandom Voices where long-time fans share their experiences.

No Cuts protest at @goetheuni.bsky.social - glad to see many of my students and colleagues, despite the heat, despite the neverending to-do lists

Asked students in my fanfic seminar today to share why they're doing this degree/class. The answers were a healthy mixture of inspiring & grounding.

Hand-written notes on them say things like creativity and I love literature but also credit points :) pieces of coloured paper in lilac and light blue that are taped to a wall. I'm all for OA but still a bit proud to see some of my writing published in an actual print book for the first time. Also, nice to have another German-language publication on fanfic - there's still so little here!

Weiterlesen: www.lueckenliste.de

If you're in Frankfurt on 19 Feb: I am co-hosting a workshop on The Classics [but mostly Dante] in Fanfiction and Adaptation with colleagues from the Romance Studies. Very excited to hear takes on fanfic appropriating classic texts and authors from three different philological contexts!

It wasn't but we'll publish a conference report at some point, hopefully soon.

Very happy with how our fanfiction workshop went - many thanks to everyone who participated and presented their ideas! Certainly got some new ideas and some fascinating insights into pre-/early internet German fandom. Write up coming soon!

Thanks for the podium picture to @einwaechter.bsky.social!
A seminar room with a white female presenter sitting at the back of the picture, facing in the direction of the camera, and a projection of a PPT slide behind her. In front of the presenter, ca. 15 people are sitting at tables in a U-shape, listening to the presentation. A mixed race female presenter is standing at the back of the picture, facing in the direction of the camera, and a projection of a PPT slide behind her. Projected is a slide titled Affekttheorie with an image of Marie Condo with the lines "Lastly, ask yourself, does it spark joy? Does it make you happy? Only keep those items that do!" written on the picture. In front of the presenter, 4 or 5 people are seen sitting and listening with their backs to the camera. A podium of four white women of different ages sitting next to each other. In the background a book cover is projected onto the wall. The title of the book is In Texten Wildern. The woman on the left is talking, the other three are slightly turned towards her, listening.
