About 15 years ago, I was in a bar with a foreign diplomat who told me the stereotypical American negotiation tactic is to walk in the room, metaphorically put a gun on the table, and then say, "Shall we negotiate?" That has stuck with me over the years.

People we can’t afford any more apathy in this country. Call or write your representatives and government officials weekly. There’s never been a better time to get politically active.
