They honestly don't care. OpenAI just released their new Sora model and told big studios that they had to opt-out. They are working hard to remove people's protections and rights.

And if that doesn't work they are buying up the studios and IP rights. Larry Ellison (Oracle) just bought TikTok and-

While going through text messages from Kaleb—insert an image of Charlie Brown saying “sigh” here—I found this, from about a year ago. The point he was making applies to all of us.
I occasionally check in with Al, not just because there's filthy gig money in Al training but also to see where the tech is at, and ask it to write an essay about California by me and the results are always so bad, so unfixable, so obviously counterfeit, that it gives me motivation to write again. It just reminds me l'm the only entity that does what I do. Never mind getting more validation than that, it tells me l'm not a statistic.

Just ran some evals on Claude Sonnet 4.5. It's better than 4 on some but worse on a lot. LLM progress is so weird. You really gotta test this stuff on what you care about.

Companies are marketing “alternatives” to immigration detention such as ankle monitors, GPS-enabled watches, and biometric reporting apps. But research by Petra Molnar, Daniel Ghezelbash, Carolina Gottardo, and Antonella Napolitano finds that tech doesn’t dismantle detention—it expands it.

Rights-based and community-centered alternatives to detention are possible, write Petra Molnar, Daniel Ghezelbash, Carolina Gottardo, and Antonella Napolitano.

The media company that can figure out how to produce news or news adjacent video content without relying on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, broadcast TV, cable, or corporate streamers will make a billion dollars and probably help save American democracy — or exist long enough to document its end

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

Tests by The Washington Post show OpenAI’s video generator Sora can mimic Netflix shows, TikTok clips and movies, suggesting it used versions of the originals.

🤖 Great piece about how GenAI generates amazing visuals. Critically, creators whose work powers GenAI want to be able to consent to having their work used. That core issue gets drowned in discussions about a related but distinct issue: copyright.
www.washingtonpost.com/technology/i...
Appropriate use of data is about more than just copyright, said Margaret Mitchell, chief ethics scientist at the AI company Hugging Face. "For individuals, it's consent that matters," Mitchell said. "And there really aren't legislative or political frameworks that account for that."

Sora can mimic Netflix shows, movies, TikTok videos and Twitch streams, suggesting it was trained on versions of the originals. Netflix said it didn't provide data to OpenAI. Twitch said it doesn't have a partnership w/ OpenAI.
