(10/08 09:20 EDT) - #Bluesky search is currently returning no skeets at all. Really hope this is just a coincidence and nothing more.

In case you’re wondering why #Blacksky is trending, @nicomaramckay.com’s piece offers deep insight. I don’t have all the facts, but what I’ve seen is worrying. Silence from @jay.bsky.team & @bsky.app only adds confusion. I support #ATProtocol & #Decentralization, but #Bluesky users deserve better.

tl;dr: Bluesky began with genuine promise: a new social media platform where users could feel safer, but inconsistent moderation quickly eroded trust.

When systemically marginalized users pushed back, Bluesky’s leadership minimized concerns and began to target them for bans.

#Deloitte Australia used AI to churn out a report with made-up quotes, then offered only a “partial” refund? After the #PwC & #KPMG scandals, the Big Four are treating the Australian government like a cash cow. Absolutely shocking!

That's a fair comment, and that's why I'm managing my expectations. It's challenging to remain at the forefront of tech product design, and his recent releases haven't been as innovative as those earlier in his career. Perhaps it's getting harder to "wow" people these days, but only time will tell.

The iMac G3 still stands out as iconic - beautiful and functional. I truly hope Ive brings that same design magic to OpenAI, but I’ll keep my expectations in check.

Jony Ive says he's juggling up to 20 ideas for OpenAI gadgets
OpenAI acquired Jony Ive's startup earlier this year, sparking speculation about future AI devices the former Apple designer is working on.

Never thought about color this way. Some things about human perception just can’t be explained.

Does AI interpret colors like we do?
Stanford researchers explored how humans and generative AI interpret color. What they found wasn’t so black and white.

LLMs are known to be heavily biased due to the lack of comprehensive datasets. If you’re collecting more data just to boost your study, this isn’t about real humans, it’s merely a study of AI chatbots! Good reporting by @cathleenogrady.bsky.social on this.

A lot of psych is already conducted with online convenience samples & ppl are probably excited about silicon samples bc it would allow them to crank out more studies for even less 💸

How about we reconsider the idea that sciencey science involves collecting own data.

AI-generated ‘participants’ can lead social science experiments astray, study finds

Deepfakes once needed mastery and time. Now tools like OpenAI’s Sora let anyone create realistic fakes in seconds. This isn’t just concerning - it’s a real danger if not properly governed.

Earlier this week, I watched OpenAI CEO Sam Altman drink from a gigantic mango juice box & remark aloud about how it was half his size. The catch: None of it was real.

But the most concerning part is that I couldn’t tell the deepfake from reality.

I don’t think anyone can deny it now: the surge in new data centers, driven largely by AI demand is pushing up electricity costs for some. The societal and economic ripple effects will hit all of us eventually, if they haven’t already.
