And when November rolls around with its gratitude reminders, I might even grumble. But my glass is rarely empty. Plus, it’s refillable— by me! Gratitude can be as simple as toilet paper and soap. Other days it’s a child’s smile or the sun shining through a window. When it’s present, I practice noticing. Awareness builds my gratitude muscle every day. Today’s Practice: Make a gratitude list. Yes, it’s corny. But do it anyway. Write down five things for which you are grateful. Start with the fact that you are breathing. Count toothpaste and deodorant. Do you start begrudgingly? As you write, scan your body. Feel resistance? Notice if this changes as you work your way down the list. What do you feel when you are finished?"
