It was a rambling portal story about two high school students who got accidentally pulled into a fantasy world, itself based on a D&D campaign that some friends and I had been trying to get off the ground - basically a "magic vs. technology" setting.
For age 13-14 it wasn't... horrible.

In my case, I was part of a "SF/Fantasy Literary Magazine" club ("Tapestry") in my combined 7-12 school. Towards the end of my 7th grade year, I decided "I can do that!" and wrote a terrible short story. After several rounds of feedback and more than a year of school, it was up to their standards.
