This is not a small error. This is the entire ball game. The Supreme Court was quite clear about the narrowness of its decision. It's exceedingly hard to see how Clare could have misread this as saying that "adults have no right to avoid age verification."

FINALLY, @jrhuddles.bsky.social makes THE key point: age verification impacts not only kids but also adults, including whistleblowers and other privacy-sensitive users who are concerned about providing information for verification. Again, CHILLING EFFECTS!

Hardly any discussion today of the First Amendment. If adults fear that having to prove their age will identify them, their speech will be chilled. You can't wave that problem away by insisting that users *should* trust cryptographic methods or that security will be perfect, as panelists have done
