I promised myself I would slow down with my Lego mania, but I guess a small treat cannot hurt… 😃

#EuroBioC2025 is over and it has been a blast! Thanks to all participants that came to @prbb.org for contributing to make such an enjoyable event and special thanks to the support from our sponsors, the organizing institutions @upf.edu @isglobal.org and the European @bioconductor.bsky.social Society

EuroBioC2025 is in full swing here in Barcelona!

Day 1 was full of great talks, conversations, and that amazing Bioconductor community energy. Excited for what’s ahead today and tomorrow!

A collaborator of mine mentioned just yesterday that my boss had told her I strived on being "fed" things, ideas, etc. I found this very insightful of him, and am really happy he would notice and encourage that 😊

Mind wandering can be a curse sometimes, but is also a superpower!

We need a *framework* (what we’ve studied, all the core material that comes from reading, experimenting, etc), and we need *freedom* to digest, evaluate, consider, and connect ideas. We need both. Emphatically. Walking around/staring into nothing/doing handstands is not wasted time. It’s integral.

A common thing I've seen among reviewers for conference poster proposals is that they request lots of results, numbers and graphs... Basically they expect a poster to contain the same stuff you'd find in an article, which makes no sense really - and defeats the whole purpose of a poster imho

Scientists are not necessarily the best communicaters, and sadly they're not always conscious about it 🥲

Also, practising sports and eating healthy is not always compatible with mental health issues such as depression and many others. And surprisingly (nope), mental health in the general population is not exactly improving...
Well, we're circling back to politics and life environment here

Side note, I wonder whether my psychiatrist knows that we’ve had wayyy more sessions in my head than we’ve had for real 🤔

But we’re pretty consistent overall so I guess that’s fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not only does speaking with someone in your head can give you some scientific perspective of theirs, but speaking w/ people in different languages or with distinct cultural standpoints adds many more dimensions to it too
nlitb.bsky.social
I also love how languages, whether written, spoken or programmed make for an incredible toolbox - whether for science or anything else really - if there is to be ever again some sort of science + linguistics conference I would be so up for it 🙌🏻

Especially that thing about having deep discussions with people in one’s head, which I identify so much with. I mean, some people have no idea just how many things we’ve talked at length in my head, and should they know it would possibly creep the f out of them 😂

I’ve been listening to the @nightsciencepod.bsky.social lately - keeps me away from screens at night which is pretty neat actually - and I had a lot of fun listening to this one today, featuring Tzachi Pilpel 😃
