People often talk as if residential schools are a thing of the past. They aren’t.

They are still causing damage to this day. People who deny that they happened are still causing damage to this day.

Survivors are still alive to this day.

Sept. 30th marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also Orange Shirt Day. That said, we Indigenous people live with that history everyday. I'm a child and grandchild of survivors of the residential schools.

Please take time today, if you can, to reflect and learn about the history.

Kong's first line is taken directly from the 2007 BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford.
