Hello #PortfolioDay

I'm Annie, I'm an illustrator that draws sapphic love and fantastic worlds! I draw almost everything in ms paint (text + upscaling done in affinity) 🥰

An illustration of Blue NM-2; a blue humanoid alien floating in space. She has ribbon-like appendages that swirl around her. There's three of her, but they're all the same person. They form a triangle or circle with their bodies. Drawn in ms paint, upscaled in affinity photo (text added in affinity as well) Two lines of pixel art planet icons. The top row are quickly done, while the bottom are bigger with much more detail and sparkles. From left to right are the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Icons drawn in ms paint and put together in affinity photo. A drawing of Blue and Eun in formal wear. Blue is in a blue shiny dress, and Eun is in her dress uniform. Eun is gently carressing Blue's chin. Drawn in ms paint. An illustration of two women, Eloise and Noemi, studying in a bedroom, their hands are almost touching. One appears to be studying an ancient tome, while another is on her laptop. Assorded clutter in the background reveals a mystical bent, with starcharts, sigils and crystals between other mementos. Drawn in photoshop.

it shows how facile and boring genAI is. the most basic "what if a planet was bejeweled".

maybe it works for people who can't process anything but a fully rendered image, but if you have any imagination or curiosity, you'd want something you can look at for longer than a second

Agreed. It's also heartbreaking that the artisans are just nameless 'local artisans', a number given alongside how many glass beads were used.

shakeel used genAI for the concept art, and was later able to work with artisans to bring the concept to life.

the original planets look almost like they've been infected with crystal boils, it was the human work that transformed it into something beautiful
A photo of a globe embroidered to look like earth, with a grey planet and an orange planet in the background. We see the Americas with different coloured patches, and bright swirly clouds over the sea.

I believe the photo belongs to swireproperties. A genAI render of earth encrusted with jewels. Screenshotted and cropped by me from an instagram video. A photo of two globes. In the background is a light blue planet with a centered embroidery resembling art of Uranus with the zodiac wheel. Around him are swirls and globes.

the jewel system by sara shakeels, although i would really like to highlight the beautiful embroideries courtesy of 80 artisans
A photo of The Jewel System, installation art by Sara Shakeel. Large embroidered globes hand from the ceiling under a black drape. They resemble the planets in our solar system.

I believe the photo belongs to swireproperties?

Altering archive photos is a falsification of history. It's extremely important not to do that.

It's bad enough that I have to put up with retouched behind-the-scenes images (green screen replaced by gray...), but if on top of that they modify details from the past...

I thought something seemed off about the the image posted below: it's a photo that's been edited and colorized by AI. Please don't do that.
Black and white photo showing people around a Darius cabinet at the October 1986 AM Show.

so i've spent the morning digging through comic art fans, and man, it's such a neat site!

you can look up a comic you like, and find pictures of preliminary sketches and original art. plus it's so lovely to see people appreciating comic art

since I see it discussed both online and among my students so often, I just wanna say*:

(*this is value neutral, I don't care how you draw your lines)
quick doodle of three skulls, all done in different ways of drawing lines. it is a comparison of what is the so called 'chicken scratch' and what is not.

le creuset mystery boxes are just loot boxes for grown ups

it's such a dishonest move to not mention the genAI integrations in your software when advertising in communities that value human art.

Thank you! I was inspired by seeing your art studies, it was a good exercise!

fighting back against the art block with some value studies
A photo of my sketchbook. In it are five value studies of illustrations by different artists (Rene Gruau, Jack Potter, Pierre Brissaud and Vincent Mallié).

Yeah. I think everything from YouTube weirdness to MeToo cases often relies on this -- if you have much more money or power than the other person, there are a lot of things you CAN ask for, and probably get. But decency requires knowing the things that you SHOULDN'T ask for.

Content creators tend to think any spectacle is defensible if they can say health and safety concerns have been attended to behind the scenes, but that’s not really it imho. Mr. Beast’s whole thing is that his subjects’ desperation for cash allows him—a wealthier person—to indulge his sadism.

This blew up, if you're curious obviously we had ventilation for the smoke and a kill switch to cut off the fires. We had professionals test this extensively and the guy in the video as stated is a professional stunt man. I take safety more serious than you could ever imagine.

in this world enough money will allow you to do literally anything you want without consequences, and that kind of power differential erodes any ability to evaluate whether you *can* do something vs. whether you should
