When I was checking the list of Hugo winners to see if NK Jemisen was the first Black woman to win (she was), I learned that Octavia Butler was never even nominated, which is absolutely outrageous. Parable of the Sower is one of my two favorite books ever, and Kindred is absolutely incredible.

Just finished rereading NK Jemisen's Broken Earth Trilogy, and holy fucking shit I forgot just how gripping these books are. the brilliant commentary on racism, slavery, colonialism, generational trauma, and cycles of abuse is all excellent, but the prose is some of the strongest I've ever read
