Transfem writer, working on original magical girl project and Ranma 1/2 fanfic. Big fan of lesbians, gay women, and GENDER. Outright anti-fan of TERFs and SWERFs.

Apparently I'm also into Canadian politics now.
Have you ever wondered if you struggle to find new books because you've read them all.

What do you have buried in there? Cthulhu?
Super Cthulhu???

"More traumatizing than you realized" is a terrifying thing to say when the trauma you did realize led you to flee the country.

For context regarding my memory horror: When I bought ram for my new 9800x3D system, I bought 32GB of Corsair Vengence 6000mhz CL30 for 144 CAD.

Today, the exact same kit costs 273 CAD.

A hundred dollar increase for RAM.

I could sell my used RAM and make a profit.

What the fuck

You may also be able to get cheaper deals at different stores or pick up refurbished parts locally, but this is broadly what this level of performance should cost.
November 2, 2025 at 11:56 PM
This uses a 5070 ti, aka the only Nvidea GPU you should be considering other than the 5090 (if you're secretly an oil baron) or maybe the 5060 ti 16gb if you absolutely need raytracing and DLSS4.

A 9070 xt is close in raster and would shave off about a hundred bucks.

This is one such build
November 2, 2025 at 11:51 PM
Depending on exactly which GPU and cpu you'd go for, somewhere between 1500 to 1800 dollars. Closer to the lower end if done smart.
November 2, 2025 at 11:50 PM
I forgot the GPU so that's skewed the results, but... It's also still true? Sorta?

It comes out to 1600cad for the sameish parts, but it's a higher quality version of the card, better ram, and a... Worse motherboard.

But still decent enough.
November 2, 2025 at 11:49 PM
That's about 768 USD.

Before tax, and we have higher taxes up here, but.
...
...
...
Wait I forgot a GPU
November 2, 2025 at 11:43 PM
...I wonder how much a similar build would cost in Canada--what the actual fuck
November 2, 2025 at 11:42 PM
And. Uh.

Uh.

Okay that's it. That's the best I can do.

Going for a cheaper motherboard and a cheaper graphics card could knock off about a hundred bucks, but that's about it. And cheaping out on the GPU will cause problems, because all that's cheaper is the 8gb cards.
November 2, 2025 at 11:36 PM
Also not shown is that the memory alone almost costs 300 fucking dollars.

300!!!
Its not even particularly high end Ddr5!

And yet it costs more than the CPU and almost as much as the GPU.
November 2, 2025 at 11:31 PM
Not shown is a 1tb ssd, a 750w PSU, an atx case, and a single tower cpu cooler, which I'm really hoping comes with thermal paste.
November 2, 2025 at 11:29 PM
Okay, so. This is what I got as a "no weakness but not overpriced build"

This isn't high-end, but it's also up to the task of running any modern title, has full compatibility with FSR4/DLSS4 (its one or the other but both are good), and has ample upgrade potential

One moment I need to gape in horrified disbelief at what the fuck has happened to pc pricing in the last year.
November 2, 2025 at 11:24 PM
A bit, but the problem is that multimonitor setups attract gremlins, which neither of us can do anything about.

Also, uh. Fair warning. Getting anything decent for 800 dollars is extremely difficult
November 2, 2025 at 11:20 PM
Running three or four monitors can actually get a little tricky with gaming setups, just due to bandwidth and program compatibility, but that's true of even a 5090, so.
November 2, 2025 at 11:15 PM
Also are you talking about a gaming pc or do you have other, professional needs?

If you can provide specifics please do, productivity is less one size fits all than gaming
November 2, 2025 at 11:12 PM
Are there any features you care about/don't care about? Do you need lots of PCIe slots or do you want something smaller? Do you want to try an itx build? Do you want to try things like path tracing or are you fine with raster with raytracing on top?
November 2, 2025 at 10:43 PM
Hello did someone mention buying a new pc.

What budget are you looking at and where are you buying? (roughly, like, what country)
