I'm joking about the heaven part -- I have zero faith above a certain level of hope in the goodness of fellow humans -- but I'd like to think I did some good.

When grown-up kids tell me stories like that, or how it helped them learn to read, or develop an interest in sciences like biology and stats, or even how it motivated them to learn an entirely new language...
That means a heck of a lot.
Like, it's gonna buy me my way into heaven or something.

Instead, I gave them context so they can easily guess at the meaning and be proud they figured it out on their own.
Or with the help of someone who can.
I've heard from so many people telling me about playing PKMN in the kitchen while mom cooked, and how they'd get her to read tougher words.

I deliberately peppered PKMN with big words above the E10-rating level knowing full well some kids may not be able to read them.
But I wasn't going to pander to them with child-appropriate pablum. It'd make the game feel babified and patronizing and just not cool.

I become a major annoyance for anyone watching with me with all my spluttering and shouting and apoplectically explosive agitation.

I know sometimes corners have to be cut due to space limitations. (Gen 1 was just three lines of 18, 17, and 17 characters. I don't need anyone telling me about shoehorning text into impossibly tiny spaces but tyvm.)
I'm also not stingy with praise if I see cleverness/elegance in translation.

And please do watch Porco Rosso.
It's one of my all-time favorites.

I don't usually bitch out mistranslations.
One: I usually never watch dubs and subtitled works based on languages I understand since I can't refrain from quality checks.
Two: I don't want to call out people I may know.
But when it's this egregious on films I LOVE...
Please do better.

We have these guys and the more modestly colored flickers.
I had a flicker stay under my eaves over winter for a number of years.

They sometimes peck at aluminum chimneys, making a metallic staccato that had me mystified.
