There was one obscure academic at the University of Colorado who called people in the World Trade Center "little Eichmanns," and that's all Fox talked about for a month.

People overestimate the difficulty of learning a language if your goal is simply reading comprehension.

I hate that a merger that would deal a body blow to theatrical films is the good outcome.

Clancy is a good storyteller but horrible at writing characters with any depth. I've read the books multiple times, and all I know of Jack Ryan's childhood is he played football and his dad was a cop. The only characters who get backstories are PoC who joined the Army to get out of the slums.

Sum of All Fears. I just reread it. Jerusalem gets run by a troika of clerics from the main Abrahamic religions, with all courts operating under religious law. Criminals get to choose which justice system they're tried under.

Sum of All Fears is really bad, with the NSA being a conniving, paranoid woman who gets slut-shamed by Cathy Ryan at a White House party. And Cardinal has a horrible portrayal of a lesbian character, which is weird because there's a gay senator who's always portrayed positively.

That book is insane in light of current events. Palestinians try non-violent protest, a fanatic IDF officer guns them down, and the US responds by threatening to cut military aid if they don't acquiesce to Ryan's plan, which includes Palestinian statehood and Jerusalem becoming an open city.

The Fast and the Furious movies do occasionally get into the same space. The fifth one had an ambush sequence that's copied straight from Clear and Present Danger with the Rock in the Jack Ryan role.

The insurance company would look at the specs, say, "Oh, these are last year's models?" and knock the value down by 30%.

And Nancy had one of the first interracial kisses on American television--with Sammy--a couple years before the one on Star Trek that everyone credits.

It's a handy logical tool (if a sign says "No parking from here to the corner," you can infer that parking is permitted elsewhere), but mainly I can't tolerate people who use it to mean, "Your counterexample to my broad claim proves my point."

I will never give up on correcting the misuse of "the exception proves the rule," because the common usage makes zero logical sense and is used solely to justify special pleadings.

There's a pizza place near me that charges $35 for a pie, but that's a 20 incher. I'm assuming these are significantly smaller.

Cast includes Holly Hunter, Tig Notaro and Paul Giamatti, so there's hope this will be higher quality than the poster looks.

Unfortunately "do nothing" is still within the range of positions.

This assumes that abolishing affirmative action is the final step and there won't be a push to weight the scales in favor of men.

The ideal family utility vehicle changes every 15 years or so as young adults decide they don't want the same car as their parents. Station wagon->minivan->SUV->oversized pickup. They also become more dangerous to pedestrians, so going back to station wagons isn't all bad.
