#MÖRKTOBER DAY 8: WIZARD

"His distended body bulges with swallowed starlight. He has not spoken in over a year. When he opens his mouth it is blinding. He could leave if he wanted to. He doesn’t want to."

WIZARD
Album: Troye Sivan - Something To Give Each Other (2023)

MELVUNG THE STARVED has been bound to the monolith for three years. The runes carved into the stone mirror the scars he carved into his own flesh in younger, more lucid days.

Every night the stars fall. He catches them in his mouth, swallows them, lets them burn channels through his organs. Each contains a fragment of something vast that would force its way into the world. Each one he consumes is one less breach in the fragile flesh of reality.

His distended body bulges with swallowed starlight. He has not spoken in over a year. When he opens his mouth it is blinding.

He could leave if he wanted to. He doesn’t want to.

If freed against his will he screams silently, and the stars begin to fall faster.

MELVUNG THE STARVED
HP 14 No Armour
Defence DR 16 (reality bends around him)
Cannot attack while his hands are bound.
Once per day: Vomit starlight in a 20’ cone (ignores armour, d10 damage, Test Presence DR14 or become obsessed with the voices behind the falling stars)

Art shows an illustration of a wizard bound to a monolith as stars fall around him.

Timelapses continue to be a brilliant feature. Got some moiré with the halftone pattern in the video render, though.

Running guy. I think I’m getting the hang of the brushes in Procreate, but I’ve still got miles to go before I’m in comfortable territory.

MÖRKTOBER day 7: Shard
THE SHARD
The crater is a wound in the fields north of Maw, still warm and steaming after weeks. At its heart, a shard of blade still smoking from its descent from the skies. Twelve feet of twisted star-metal, wide as a cart wheel, jagged at both ends. What weapon it once belonged to must have been meant for gods.
Those who touch it report the same sensation, something vast and patient turning its attention toward them. By morning, blind eyes begin to open in their flesh. First in soft places, armpits, inner thighs, the hollow of the throat. Then everywhere.
The local farmers have begun a cult. They sit around the crater’s edge at dusk, facing inward, letting the sickly light of the blade wash over them. They wait.

Spend a night beside the shard
Test Presence DR14. Success: Your blind eyes gain sight. You can see the seams in reality, the places where this world was poorly stitched together. Failure: Your blind eyes gain sight. You see them looking back. Permanent −d2 Presence.

Illustration: A broken shard of a wavy sword, in a field of darkness dotted with crying eyes.

Also, late to the party but how cool is the export timelapse video thing??

More Procreate experimentation. I have no idea what brushes to use or hot they work, but I’m getting there.

It’s just a very unusual feeling to be so lost and, well, bad at digital drawing when it’s literally the thing I do all day. Guess it’s just a matter of sticking to it and getting used to it.
nohr.se
I got an iPad to draw on, been thinking about it for a long time. The new device is what it is, but damn, changing from Photoshop and like… 25 years of refined workflow there to a whole new software is a daunting task. I’m so lost haha. But it’s getting there.

So I guess Pit Trap Shop US sales are open again, but only for the billionaire class.

Just sent two A5-sized books to the US for the low, low price of $260.

This art is basically a MÖRK BORG version of the Sims

#MÖRKTOBER DAY 6: HUSK

Words by me. Art by @nohr.se
Isak Skarvlund makes his home in a brick building with no windows on the edge of the Stained Field. By day he oversees the production of the Scar Wine and the running of his estate. When night falls he retreats inside and bolts the doors tight.

In the quiet secrecy of his home he sloughs off his human skin. What shuffles forth from within is a clattering opalite thing, many-jointed and many-mouthed, glittering with the light of dead stars.

It came here to hunt Glopstepalof, but the frog hasn't been seen for centuries and the alien intelligence has learned more mundane, human concerns - budgets, and staff rostering, and ensuring the yields from the Scar remain steady. In its dreams it remembers what it meant to be a god, but those ancient feelings fade with the coming of the dawn.

THE OPALITE
HP 66 Morale - Armor -d4 (light twists around it)
Prismatic Appendage d8

Refracted Gaze: All within sight test Presence DR16 or become transfixed. Transfixed creatures stand motionless, weeping rainbow tears, taking d6 damage per round as their organs slowly crystallise.

Greta Thunberg in Greece:

I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me, but that is not the story.

MÖRKTOBER day 5: Stain

The Stained Field
Just to the east of the Múr, where the land grows flat and swollen with damp, there sits a stretch of dry, flaking soil, a scab on the face of the earth. This is the Stained Field, and it is the domain of Isak Skarvlund.
His workers stamp the fields in metal boots lined with sharp studs seven inches long. They stab them into the scabbed earth, then siphon the liquid that seeps from the wounds into clay cats strapped to their backs. Occasionally their masks slip and the vapours overwhelm them. Those who fall are subsumed by the earth.
Under cover of darkness, the fresh wounds scab over again, ready for another day’s harvest.

Scar Wine
Fermented for three years in clay jars, it is a powerful intoxicant when diluted and a deadly poison when ingested neat. A bottle of the worst vintage costs 300 silver. The rarest, best years cost much more.

The illustration shows a swamplike field with two characters on what appears to be long stilts. They wear backpacks and strange masks covering their entire heads. In their hands are sticks ending in bells and pearls.

I’m a big fan

It’s kinda wobbly though because I must’ve used the wrong glue or something. But if you sort of squint it looks fine and not at all sagging like it’s about to fall at any moment.

Alright, drawing on an iPad Pro, as a photoshop-and-Wacom-cintiq-on-PC guy? Want something a bit more mobile but new things (especially expensive ones) are scary.

It is. My initial plan was to use it as a project tool, a mood board for whatever I was working for atm but as it turned out it’s just me putting up whatever I like at the moment haha.

Removed a MOUNTAIN of books and paper from my workspace and now it kinda looks… good? Especially in the dark so you can’t see what’s hidden.

A little dash of #MÖRKTOBER body horror in this one.

#MÖRKTOBER DAY 4: HOWL

"Those who spend the night in the clearing are tormented by violent visions of pulsing red, rending flesh, twisting gristle, hot muscle tearing and pulling apart at the seams."

Words by me. Art by @nohr.se
The trees that ring the clearing are dead and dying but still stand, their bark twisted into leering faces, the only thing that remains of the cultists who once worked their rites here. In the creak of the branches you can still hear their death cries, their sad laments barely a whisper on the wind.

Those who spend the night in the clearing are tormented by violent visions of pulsing red, rending flesh, twisting gristle, hot muscle tearing and pulling apart at the seams. On waking, Test Presence DR 12. Failure: Lose d2 from a random Attribute, permanently. Success: Learn one of the following Powers. You can cast it once per day.

FLESHWARP
Your bones crack and reform. Roll d6: 1-2: Gain an extra arm (make an additional attack each round, DR 14); 3-4: Legs fuse into a serpent tail (Defense DR10 but you can't walk); 5-6: Face splits open revealing fanged maw (d6 bite attack). Lasts d4 hours. Test Presence DR12 or permanent.

SKINLESS COMMUNION
Peel away your flesh to become one with the world. Take d6 damage. For the next hour, you can flow through cracks, sense vibrations through walls, and are immune to blades and bludgeons. Test Toughness DR14 afterward or gain permanent -1 HP.

MEAT PUPPET
Touch a corpse. Your consciousness transfers into it while your body collapses. Control the corpse for d6 hours. The corpse rots visibly (lose 1 point from random ability each hour). When the effect ends, Test Presence DR12 or your soul takes d4 hours to find its way back to your body.

BONEGARDEN
Your skeleton sprouts through your skin like thorns. Take d6 damage. Anyone who touches or strikes you in melee takes d4 damage. Lasts d6 rounds. Test Toughness DR10 after. On failure, your bones don't fully retract (permanent -1 Presence, +1 to all Defense DRs).
